Steak and more steak – Bar + Block

This new Bar + Block in Kings Cross which has recently opened joins the other existing Birmingham and Whiteley restaurants.  There is also another new Bar + Block to open soon in Bath.

Bar + Block in Kings Cross

Bar + Block in Kings Cross shares it’s space within Premier Inn.  Upon entering the restaurant entrance you firstly come across a bar area before getting to the reception desk.  The staff are all very friendly and welcoming.  The restaurant area is quite a large open space with a number of lovely wooden tables dotted around and everything is beige/wooden colours making the place very relaxing on the eyes.  I went along with one of my blogger friends Gemma and we sat in one of the comfy booths on the side which had a window looking out into the reception area of Premier Inn. We also could see the chefs open Kitchen area easily from where we was sat.  I love open kitchen areas as I so love watch the chefs cook. We were firstly presented with a bread basket that consisted of several different types of bread which was lovely and very fresh however we did not get a piece of each different style of bread so we had to break in half each piece which was strange I thought.  Plus there was melted butter in the bottom of the cup holding the bread.

Starters

For starters I ordered the Garlic King Prawns which are cooked in white wine, garlic and butter, topped with a wedge of lemon.  They were presented very nicely in a very hot mini bowl covered with lashing of heavenly melted garlic butter so the prawns kept very hot in temperature. They were meaty and very tasty.

Main

With this being a steak restaurant I just had to order the Spiral Cut Fillet 10oz Steak. This is a spiral cut piece of fillet which is marinated in garlic and parsley giving it tenderness and flavour.  I asked for it to be cooked medium rare.  When I received it I was very impressed as was cooked to perfection which was certainly a nice change as usually restaurants get this so wrong.  My knife slid through the steak and it literally melted in my mouth as it was so soft and hardly any chewing was needed.

Dessert

I had the Chocolate Toffee Fondue for Two which I shared with my friend.  I love toffee and fondues so this was a great dessert to be found on the menu I wish other restaurants done this more.

The fondue came with cinnamon coated banana fritters, mini churros, chocolate brownie bites and fresh fruit along with the warm chocolate toffee sauce for dipping.  The banana fritters were great warm and coated very lightly in delicious batter, the churros were perfect not doughy at all and the brownies were very moist and chocolaty has to be said but they were most certainly one of the best brownies I have ever had and I don’t usually like brownies. The sauce was also very sweet and gooey.

Apart from the food they also sell various drinks from cocktails to wine.  I had several cocktails and all tasted great.

Verdict

If you are around the Kings Cross in the area in the morning Bar + Block also do steak and eggs for breakfast.  However you can get their succulent steaks right throughout the day ‘til late.  You can either have your steak hand cut to a size that matches your appetite or discover new favourites from our ever-changing Butchers Block with so many different cuts to choose from.  All steaks can be cooked to your liking.

I would go back to Bar + Block if I was in the area as it is a spacious restaurant you don’t feel like your sitting on top of each other, the staff are friendly and the food was fantastic.
