Pedalling and pedalling – PediBus London

Me and other members of Love Pop Ups London rode the PediBus London for an hour around the streets of London.

PediBus is basically a very large tandem bicycle but instead very wide and long which can hold not two people but in fact thirteen people in total with eight people sitting/cycling, four VIP standing passengers and a member of staff to steer.  With a member of staff steering everyone can the sit back and relax, sorry I mean get on pedalling, having fun and drinking.  Yes, that’s right drinking you can take drinks on board and alcohol. You can even play your own music on board.

We chose the City and Thames tour and started our journey from London Bridge. Tours normally last around 60-90 minute but it all depends really how fast everyone pedals.

First things first though drinks in hand and bums comfortably on the seats. I took on board some cans of Nix and Kix which are soda pops with a difference as one of their ingredients in all their drinks is chilli.  So the Nix and Kix certainly did give a few peddlers a kick who drank it during the journey.

Plus some others bought along with them some wine. You are though only allowed to consume 2 beers or 2 glasses of wine per person whilst on board. However if on your journey you run out of drink there is a pit stop halfway through at a pub so everyone can grab an additional pint or glass or wine there whilst resting or nip into a newsagent.

Our journey started with a steep hill which was a task. Then we crossed over London Bridge with stunning views of Tower of London, we passed the Shard, passed the Tate Modern and even the famous Tower of London where the Queens crown resides. We were even lucky with the weather as even though dull it was not raining or snowing. However, if it did rain no fear as they can put up a roof to shelter all cyclists.

After the tour we were all knackered and some of us rather tipsy after drinking some wine but all in all we were in good spirits and laughing about the brilliant time we had.

Highlights of the tour and verdict

The highlight of the whole tour for me personally has to be cycling across London Bridge and seeing The Tower of London in the distance. Did you know that Tower of London has a new glass floor which you can walk or even lie down on and the Thames River directly below you. It was also hilarious passing on by shoppers whom took photos of us and having vehicles beeping their horns at us laughing and waving.

So if you love London, tours, famous landmarks, drinking, cycling and having a good laugh then I highly recommend booking the PediBus London.

There are four routes with the PediBus London and they are:

• City and Thames
• Shoreditch
• St Pauls
• London Borough

However even though all the routes are the same time and distance some routes are not available every day.

You can choose any start time from 11:00-20:00 Mon- Fri and at 11:00, 12:30, 14:00, 15:30, 17:00, 18:30 Sat & Sun (subject to availability)

You can have groups of 5-72 people (remember each PediBus holds 12 passengers in total)

You can take as many soft drinks and snacks on board but alcoholic beverages are limited to 2 beers per person per tour or 2 glasses of wine per person tour. Champagne, cider, alcopops are permitted, but no bottles of spirits are allowed on board. However there is a pub stop halfway on route.

Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Anyone who can’t comfortably reach the pedals will have to take a standing position. Nobody under 10 years old can ride the PediBus London.
