Are you bored with mulled wine and fancy an alternative festive tipple? then TimeOut drinks editor for one night only provides readers and drinkers an alternative festive night of unique hot tipples curated by Hendricks, Monkey Shoulder, Glendfiddich and Reyka at Night Tales.
I went along with some friends to this one night special on 12 December on a complimentary basis courtesy of TimeOut as I belong to their Tastemakers club.
TimeOut
Time Out Group is a global media and entertainment business that helps people make the most of the city.
It was founded in London in 1968 when Time Out helped people explore the exciting new urban cultures that had started up all over the capital. Since then, this iconic brand has consistently maintained its status as the go-to source of inspiration for both locals and visitors alike.
Tastemakers
Tastemakers is a club that that provides us members opportunities throughout the year to attend experiences in return for a review, blog or Instagram post to help gain exposure for the company.
Night Tales
Night Tales is East London’s largest covered terrace covering 1,600 sq ft with a beer garden, club and restaurant. Guests will be surrounded by crackling fire pits, fire torches, candle lights and heaters to keep everyone warm and cosy out on the terrace.
With plenty of bars serving various drinks and DJ’s pumping out music and food served by Fat Baby there is something for everyone.
Fat Baby
Fat Baby is a Japanese cuisine which sells raw, steamed, simmered, grilled and fried food. All the food is influenced from street sellers within Tokyo and Japan.
Greg Round is the Head Chef behind Fat Baby and brings along with him a wealth of knowledge from 2 Michelin star rated Umu in Mayfair where he trained.
The food can be enjoyed at Night Tales 42 covered restaurant area.
TimeOut Hotboozapalaooza
Set under the railway arches of Bar Brick in Hackney is where Nights Tales resides but for one night only TimeOut drinks editor took over the venue and provided an anti mulled wine festival of a variety of twists on classic cocktails and punch. All drinks being hot warming up anyone’s cockles on this cold night all whilst rocking to the sounds provided by a top DJ.
Upon entering and securing one of the VIP booth’s for the night me and my friends went on and explored the venue and grab our drinks whilst Mr Skeleton secured our booth.
There was plenty of hot drinks to sip from Hendricks, Monkey Shoulder, Glendfiddich and Reyka. With the ticket we could have one of each which was fab news least it prevented me from having a hard choice of what to choose. Firstly I started with Monkey Shoulder and worked my way through.
Funkidory
Monkey shoulder – Funkimonkey
Monkey shoulder whisky, chestnut liqueur, sugar syrup, coffee, peanut butter and white chocolate
Iron Stag
Glenfiddich – Hot scotch
Glenfiddich 12 Year Old Whisky, mulled ginger and apple berry, healthier honey, grated cinnamon
Punch Room at the London Edition
Hendricks Gin – A Dreih Day Punch
Hendricks Gin, red currant syrup, lemon juice, Nepalese and chocolate tea, absinthe, chilli butter
Silver Lining
Reyka Vodka – Artic screwdriver
Rejya vodka, sherry, clementine, lemon, almond syrup, ginger ale
All the drinks tasted great with them all being very festive and warming my cockles up but my favourite was most certainly the Monkey Shoulder cocktail called Funkimonkey. It was creamy, sweet and indulgent like a deluxe hot chocolate with a nutty twist.
Plus there was some doughnuts to nibble on throughout the night as well as Japanese inspired food cooked by chefs of Fat Baby which could be bought on the night.
I opted for fried chicken which was finger licking good.
As well as the festive hot drinks and rocking music which was being played throughout the night at this non mulled wine festival there was an immersive northern lights experience to be enjoyed as well as games to be played from table top curling to vintage arcade games.
Question is though who out of your friends is the better player?
Drinks up
TimeOut like usual provided a great night of fun all served along with hot unique inspired cocktails and punch. All the drink was delicious especially the Monkey Shoulder drink.
Even though I went along on a complimentary basis as I am a Tastemaker (#totastemaker) I would say that £20 for this event which will cover 4 cocktails for the night is value worthy if you love hot cocktails and music.
