Nepalese cuisine – KityCow pop up at Hush

Within London did you know that there is a secret hidden Mayfair restaurant called Hush which is tucked away in a hidden courtyard within the historical heart of Mayfair?

Well I never knew and I was pleased that I got to discover it on a recent win of mine.

I had the pleasure to experience a delicious three course meal along with three of my friends to dine within Hush’s residency pop up KityCow which is there for just 3 months.

Firstly let me tell you a bit more about Hush.

Hush

Hush is a restaurant which is set in a townhouse in Mayfair. It has two dining spaces, an award-winning cocktail lounge, extensive private dining options and has one of the best outdoor dining spaces within London.

The Courtyard

Hush has a courtyard which is decorated every so often with different themes.

During 11 March through to 12 May in collaboration with Sakuro Gin and Franklin & Sons they have transformed the courtyard into a Japanese garden full of cherry blossoms and oriental fans.

Within this flowery courtyard guests can dine within the cherry blossom from a hearty breakfast through to a very luxury dinner of lobster along with a choice of four inspired seasonal cocktails which all have been curated by Sakuro Gin and Franklin & Sons.

Brasserie

Hush has a Brasserie which is on the ground floor and is chic and modern.

They serve an all day menu which features classic brasserie dishes with a European flavour using seasonal ingredients, such as Carpaccio of Beef Harrys Bar style, Black Fig and Burrata Salad and The Hush Hamburger with Truffled Brie. Not forgetting the Cacio e Pepe, decadently finished in a giant wheel of cheese.

Courtyard and Brasserie opening hours:

Breakfast:
Monday to Friday from 8.00am – 11.30am
Lunch and Dinner:
Monday to Saturday from 12.00pm – 10.30pm
Sunday from 12.00pm – 10.00pm

Aviator Bar

The Aviator Bar won Best Bar in London 2017 which makes this bar a must to visit.

It is situated on the first floor and is decorated in a very 60’s style.

Hush’s award-winning bar team of expertly trained mixologists can lead you on a journey around the world without even leaving your bar stool.  Within the menu of cocktails each page gives an in depth description of the cocktail from where it is inspired from, which ingredients are used, the garnishes and what type of glass it will be served in.

If you are looking for more than just sipping on a cocktail they also hold Cocktail Masterclasses from Monday to Saturday from 3.00pm – 6.00pm.  These classes will be discreetly located off the main bar area in The Concorde Room, which is an exclusive den available for parties of up to eighteen.

If you are looking to hire out a cocktail lounge then Aviator is a good choice.  It can accommodate up to 40 guests for a seated reception or 50 guests for a cocktail party when hired exclusively.

KityCow

KityCow is a three month pop up (1 February to 1 May) within Hush which is run by Joe Allen and Aaron Thomas who appeared on BBC’s Million Pound Menu.

Hush KityCow

It can be found on the first floor.

Who are Joe and Aaron?

The KityCow duo met at catering college and went on to travel in Australia together whilst working in fine dining establishments. They soon developed a taste for Indo-Nepalese cuisine and on return to the UK saw a gap in the market for cooking Nepalese flavours using a more refined method.

KityCow will be serving diners Nepalese cuisine with a British fusion with dining menus.

My experience at Hush pop up KityCow

Heading down the cobble streets to Hush and heading through the beautiful blossom cherry arch I was excited for my meal at KityCow and meeting Joe and Aaron.

Aviator

Firstly though as I was early and my friends had not even arrived I decided to have a drink within the Aviator bar with my husband Jason.

I had a Waffle On.

Which was served in a light bulb. It was zesty and sweet.

Jason had the Head in the Game.

This cocktail served within a glass in a skull according to Jason was very fruity and refreshing.

My friends had the Champagne Jacuzzi.

Served within a mini bath full of bubbles it made us all just thinking about soaking in a bath. My friends both said it tasted amazing with the creamy foamy froth with the sweetness of the champagne making it a very indulgent drink.

With all of Aviator cocktails being served in such an unusual way, be it in a mini bath tub or a skull, every cocktail is a talking point.

After enjoying our drinks we then headed over to KityCow, Hush’s three month residency pop up run by Joe and Aaron.

KityCow

Upon entering KityCow I was highly impressed by the wall decor, colours, layout and dimly lit lighting which gave the whole place class and a feel of romance.

Sitting down we was presented with a menu

For our mains we could opt from either pork or the Tandoori celeriac. We all chose pork.

Time to eat

The Nimki crackers tasted amazing, buttery and crunchy which you could dip into a coriander sauce which gave it that extra flavour and different texture.

The cauliflower was crunchy and tasted great with it’s hint of spiciness and creamy curry sauce.

Next was the pork which was cooked to perfection with it being succulent and melted in the mouth.  The flavour of the pork was not too over powering and thankfully no fatty bits.  I would of loved some crackling though and maybe some more vegetables as was just served along with a small portion of cabbage and Daal makhana which are lentils.

The dessert was like a cream yogurt with a mango sauce and topped with a flat meringue which looked a bit like an iceberg.  It was refreshing, tangy, sugary, smooth and crunchy all at the same time.  I absolutely loved this dessert.

For our cocktails we chose from a selection of four listed cocktails. We chose:

  • Kumquat Martini Fair Vodka, Kumquat Liqueur, Lemon Juice
  • Fig Old Fashioned Plantation 5 year old, Fig Liqueur
  • Saffron Collins Plantation Dark Rum, Palm turmeric Syrup, Coconut, Lime Juice, topped up with Ginger Ale.

All looked amazing and tasted outstanding.

After we then had the opportunity to have a quick meet and greet with Joe and Aaron to say thank you and have a photo with them.

Sir Roger Moore Room

Before leaving Hush for the night we also had the pleasure of having the opportunity in seeing the Sir Roger Moore Room.

Hush Sir Roger Moore room

My husband is a massive fan of James Bond and with Roger playing Bond back in the 70’s & 80’s he just had to see this special dedicated room.

Before reaching the room we passed an array of photos on the wall from celebrities who attended many parties along with Roger Moore over the years.

But I think this needs to be adjusted

Perfect, me, my husband Jason, Jen and Joice.

Hush Sir Roger Moore

The actual Sir Roger Moor Room was impressive with light beaming in from the windows, the large impressive dining table, the bar and the memobillia and photos of Sir Roger Moore which was dotted around the room.

I love animals and insects so for me the best part of the room was the butterfly canvas which I just had to stand in front of.

I would highly recommend hiring out this space if you are seeking a classy space in a classy area of London to impress clients or work colleagues or even to impress your friends who might be fans of James Bond or Sir Roger Moore.

Verdict

As KityCow is only resident at Hush for three months I would love to go back as the food was outstanding, the staff were highly friendly and the atmosphere in the restaurant has a real vibe making it very relaxing. However with it only open till 1 May I am unsure if I will get the opportunity and time.

I will though certainly go back at some point to try out Hush Brasserie A La Carte menu one day as the dishes all sound amazing, especially the lobster dish.

Plus I want to return to their bar Aviator as their cocktails all sounded amazing and so there is so many more I want to try out.
