TĪNG at The Shard – April Feast Menu

The Shard is one of the most modern iconic buildings within London but apart from the amazing views from top of the Shard did you know you can stay or even dine within the Shard? I had the pleasure of dining at TĪNG which is within Shards resident Shangri-La Hotel courtesy of Bookatable.

The Shard

The Shard which is also referred to as the Shard of Glass is a glass structure which is set within the heart of London Bridge.

This 95 storey skyscraper which was constructed in March 2009 and was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano.  It stands at 309.7 metres (1,016 ft) high, it is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, the tallest building in the European Union, and the fifth-tallest building in Europe.  It is also the second-tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom.

  • There are 72 habitable floors within the Shard.
  • A hotel by Shangri-La Hotel.
  • A multitude of dining experiences: Aqua Shard, Oblix, Hutong, Lang, Gong, Embark and TĪNG.
  • Plus a privately operated observation deck called The View from The Shard giving paying public visitors a unparalleled 360-degree view from floors 68, 69 and 72 at a staggering 244m from the ground.

Shangri-La Hotel

Shangri-La Hotel is situated in The Shard.  It is one of the world’s most iconic buildings, which offers panoramic skyline views that connect you to the whole city. It has 202 rooms and suites, 4 restaurant and bars, infinity sky pool and hot tubs.

TĪNG Restaurant and Lounge

Modern European with a touch of Asian influence.

At TĪNG discover a deliciously local dining experience, celebrating fresh ingredients sourced from suppliers in Borough Market.

The restaurant is a popular destination for breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea and late supper. Every occasion is enhanced by 360-degree views, encompassing the River Thames, Tower Bridge, Maritime Greenwich, Canary Wharf and the historic counties of Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

The lounge offers pleasant London views and a subtly glamorous atmosphere, Ting lounge is a comfortably relaxed space in which to enjoy a light breakfast, classic English or Asian afternoon teas, or one of Shangri-La’s signature Asian dishes.

Did you know the world TĪNG is derived from the Chinese word for living room? reflecting the casual elegance of this restaurant and lounge on floor 35.

I like to keep my dishes simple so the flavours of the ingredients really shine through. I’m thrilled to be providing guests what London has to offer, complemented by a quality selection of wines and stunning panoramic views of the city.”

TING my experience

I went along to enjoy the delights of TĪNG with my friend Joice courtesy of Bookatable.

Entering a dedicated entrance into Shangri-La me and my friend were greeted by friendly staff, which checked our bags for security measures before we were led to a dedicated elevator to TĪNG which resides on floor 35.   Entering the lift the excitement in both of us was high as I have been wanting to dine at TĪNG for quite some time and for my friend this was her first time ever in the Shard building.  Beware though going up within this lift your ears might pop due to the speed of the lift and pressure.

Upon exiting and heading towards TĪNG we could see how it is split into two sections.  There is a nice relaxed lounge area with low tables and big comfy chairs and then there is the restaurant which is more formal where there are many tables which are placed around the edge of the windows of the Shard giving diners all stunning panoramic views of London.  Both areas are designed in with an aura of Chinese Culture with an elegant and modern twist.

We were there to experience TĪNG restaurant and the culinary delights of their 3 course set menu which was on offer during April.

Our table overlooked the railway, River Thames, and many of London’s offices.  We unfortunately as we were sat round the corner near the kitchen we did not have a view of Tower Bridge and the many other iconic buildings of London but none the less was still a lovely view.

I mean just look at that how beautiful still

and this is the view for if you would like to see Tower Bridge and other iconic buildings.

This is certainly a great way to take in views of London and from the Shard without paying the steep charges to view London from the Shards viewing platform.  This way you can sit back, relax and eat whilst enjoying the views of London from 128m above ground.

However if you would like an even wider view of London you can always purchase a ticket for A View From The Shard to view London from viewing platforms which are on floors 68, 69 and 72 and set 244m above ground.  It offers visitors an unparalleled 360 degrees of London’s skyline.

Time to eat

Whilst we pondered on what to eat from the 3 course set menu we were given a glass of champagne to sip on and some delicious homemade bread from the nearby Borough Market to nibble on.

After much deliberation I had made my mind up and I decided to start with Asparagus as it is in season at the moment.  It was presented beautifully and came served with a dollop of goats curd. The asparagus was fresh and had a lovely edge of acidity from and the mild creamy goats curd which paired well giving you a clean palate after each bite.

My friend chose the Beef Tartare which she said tasted really nice.

For mains we both had the Chicken Breast which was cooked to perfection.  It had a lovely crunchy skin and the meat of the chicken was perfectly white and succulent, in fact it cut like butter. The chicken cream sauce was a delight as well as the cooked winter salad which was certainly different as was a cooked lettuce.

For dessert I had Eaton Mess which was a real delight and got the senses of my taste buds buzzing with the sharpness of the passion fruit sorbet through to the crunchy meringues and creaminess of the cardamom chantilly cream.

My friend opted for the Mille Feuille which she said tasted delicious with the caramelised hazelnuts and hint of vanilla seeping through the creamy and crunchy dessert.

The whole 3 course meal which I enjoyed was a true delight and the London’s skyline was stunning making this one of the most memorable dining experiences with a view.

Verdict

The TĪNG met all our expectations from the atmosphere, views and food however personally I feel that this restaurant is best suited personally if you are looking for something that extra special for a date night, to celebrate a special occasion or looking for a restaurant to impress work clients for that all important lunch or dinner meeting.

If you are going out with friends though and would love a bite to eat with a stunning view of London then I would suggest for a less formal environment the lounge in TĪNG as it is a less romantic setting and has a more relaxed atmosphere.

The value of the 3 course set menu I feel is very reasonable and the portions were good. Plus don’t forget you will get outstanding views when dining at TĪNG which is priceless.

I would certainly go back along with my husband one day to eat and gaze together the sun setting across London.

I highly recommend to anyone to visit TĪNG be it the lounge area or their main restaurant.
