Not all treasure is silver and gold as I and my buccaneers found whilst at DoubleTree by Hilton in the Docklands.
We were invited down on a complimentary basis to enjoy the treasures of which the Columbia restaurant provided to a themed pirate afternoon tea which we were treated to a bountiful of cakes, cakes and more cakes.
Columbia restaurant within DoubleTree in the Docklands
Columbia has recently been newly renovated giving hungry diners fresh, seasonal and international offerings.
Enjoy a unique dining experience overlooking Canary Wharf. Start your day with an international breakfast or enjoy perhaps a three course meal or even a themed afternoon tea for those who are craving something sweet. Whatever you choose though you will not be disappointed.
Pirate takeover
Jumping on the Thames Clipper from Canary Wharf Dockside over to DoubleTree by Hilton in the Docklands for a pirate afternoon tea with my buccaneers in tow I was already feeling like a pirate.

Upon entering into the DoubleTree Hotel which is very modern I headed on over to the Columbia bar and restaurant where I waited for my crew. Whilst waiting I ordered from the bar an Espresso Martini which not just looked amazing but tasted exceptional.
Once we had all gathered together we took over Columbia restaurant, ok we took over a table for 10.

The interior is lovely, very inviting with it’s exposed brickwork, glossy furnishings, warm colours and beautiful city views.
Plus during the hotter months you can enjoy the afternoon tea or meal on their sun terrace overlooking the Thames at Canary Wharf.

Through the afternoon we were treated to baking treasures from chef Michael, as after all not all treasure is silver and gold as we discovered.

At the pirate themed afternoon tea we were provided with much cake, cake and more cake plus sandwiches and an unlimited amount of rum punch, as all pirates love rum.
There was banana smoothies, a white chocolate mousse, blueberry cakes, macaroons, banana cake, chocolate cake, iced cakes, scones and sandwiches all which tasted fresh and delicious how you would expect them to taste.
However what stood out for me personally was the banana cake as it was light and delicate with a hint of banana flavouring coming through. All mine.

Usually though it is not presented like above as it is usually served in one singular treasure box between two which looks adorable.
Plus in warmer months you can sit out on the terrace and take in the views of Canary Wharf and watch ships sail by.
The Afternoon tea is priced at just £22 and can be booked between 12pm to 4pm from any day.
Plus whilst enjoying our afternoon tea I decided to run a mini competition and everyone of my buccaneers had to come up with their own unique Pirate name.
- Bonny Blue Beard
- Captain Beock Hook
- Victoria Chesty Winter Bottom
- Silver Crab Eater
- Passion Parrot
- Oyster Master
- Captain Penniless
- Captain Jess Sea
- Stinky McPirateface
I think I can figure out a few of them but the question is do you think you can deceiver who called themself what.
The manager Jo chose Stinky McPirateface as the winner which Bianca decided to call herself for the afternoon. She won a box of goodies from drink to hair products courtesy of me as pirates love a drink and with all that sea air and sand on those beaches digging up for treasure needs to be maintained.

Recommend
I highly recommend this afternoon tea due to it’s location and there are lovely views to be had overlooking the Thames, the afternoon tea is quirky, the food is outstanding and it is very reasonably priced.
