Bellissima UK DIY pizza crust we can trust

Pizza is Italian food porn and one of the top takeaway favourites for practically everyone in the world. However with us being in lock down due to Covid-19 there are not as many restaurants open to dine in or takeaway but fear not pizza lovers as Bellissima has come to the rescue with their DIY Pizza Kit so you can create your perfect pizza at home, with a spread of tomato there and a sprinkle of mozzarella there, and hey presto you will have your very own freshly prepared homemade pizza.

I was gifted a DIY Kit to make my own pizza at home courtesy of Bellissima and it was ever so easy and very fun.

Bellissima UK

Bellissima UK provides an easy Pizza DIY kit which contains all the ingredients to make the perfect freshest Margherita and pizza party within the comfort of your own home.

Co-founders, Stefano and Enrico, started out by joining forces with Otello a famous pizzeria from Italy. They helped transform his pizzeria for Italians into more than just a place to dine or grab a takeaway but a hub for commercial outlets to be able to buy freshly made pizza dough. In fact their pizza dough is a major service operator for hotels, restaurants, pubs, etc worldwide.

More about Otello

In 1996 a highly skilled pizza chef Otello, opened a Pizzeria in the small village of San Severino Marche in Central Italy. He used quality ingredients and hand made pizzas which were the key to his success. Otello focused his efforts on the pizza dough’s preparation, the most time consuming and skill requiring step thus this is where the idea of a pre-made, fresh pizza base was born. His pizza was so good, that all the locals started asking Otello if they could purchase his pizza bases to cook at home! As after all, pizza and Italians, is a love affair that goes beyond dining out!

Further history about pizza

Pizza originates from Italy but did you know that according to folklore pizza initially originated firstly from Naples and was regarded as food of the poor. It was simply made by just using just flour, water and a tiny bit of tomato paste.

Naples Baker Raffaele Esposito is often given credit for creating the first pizza pie to have cheese as well as tomato paste as toppings. In 1889 legend has it that Esposito was invited to make a grand pizza for Italian King Umberto I and Queen Margherita when they visited Naples in 1889. That pizza, featured fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil, and is known today as the Margherita. Plus Italians are very proud to note that the ingredients used are to represent the nations flag with it’s red, green and white colours.

Bellissima UK was born

Now Stefano and Enrico have bought to the UK real Italian pizza giving us pizza loving home owners a professional easy style pizza experience to enjoy in the convenience of your own homes.

Easy, Quick and no mess

After just 24 hours of requesting my kit I soon had my Bellissima UK Pizza DIY kit. I was impressed by how well packed it was and by the amount of food contained within.

Just look at all of this.

With any Bellissima UK Pizza kits they come with fresh pizza bases all which have never been frozen, so you can keep them in the fridge for up to 30 days.

My Bellissimia UK Pizza kit contained:

  • 4 hand-stretched pizza bases (10”)
  • 500g of diced mozzarella (suitable for a vegetarian diet)
  • 450g of tomato sauce (suitable for a vegan diet)
  • 2 focaccias rosemary
  • 2 portions of extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 portions of balsamic vinegar
  • 2 puccia breads
  • 1 jar of green pesto
  • 4 soft drinks

Certainly enough to feed a family or even hold a pizza party with friends, well that’s if we could have people round of course but at present we can’t.

Pizza time

To prepare the pizza for a Margherita it was so easy to do. Preheat the oven to 220-250C and once hot I created my pizza. Following the easy step by step guide literally within 10 minutes I had a freshly cooked pizza.

Spreading my pizza base with 85g tomato sauce I was overwhelmed by the freshness and sweet smell. I then scattered over 85g of the cutest mozzarella cubes I have ever seen. Then I popped it into the oven and after around 5 to 8 minutes I soon had a perfectly cooked thin crust pizza. Perfectly thin, crispy and full of flavour with the most stringiest mozzarella topping. In fact it tasted exactly like a proper authentic Italian pizza, fantastico!

I used a pizza stone to cook my pizza on which gave it that extra crispiness but if you have not got a pizza stone you can use a oven tray just make sure you preheat it up first. Alternatively instead of using your oven to cook a delicious pizza within Bellissima sell Stone Pizza Ovens which are priced £99.99.

If you are not a fan of Margherita you can always buy other ingredients from Bellissima or from the supermarket to top your pizza up with and turn it perhaps into an Hawaiian pizza or a Pepperoni Pizza perhaps.

The pizza base is made from fine ground durum wheat semolina, water, potato starch, salt, extra virgin olive oil, brewer’s yeast, soy lecithin, preservative: potassium sorbate (E202). Contains gluten, soy.  The tomato sauce is made from tomatoes, salt, sugar, sunflower oil, herbs. The diced mozzarella is made from pasteurised cow milk, salt, vegetarian rennet, bacteria culture.

More than just pizza

The other foodie delights within the kit also was as equally as good.

The focaccia takes just 3 to 5 minutes in the oven. It smelt amazing, and was so good, so fresh, so thick, so fluffy and airy with a great saltiness to it. The balsamic vinegar and the olive oil which was provided was a great accompaniment to dip the bread into.

The puccia is like a mini flat bread. After cooking for 3 to 5 minutes tasted similar to a flat bread but a thicker version, so tasty and fluffy within. I dipped into the the very green garlicy pesto provided within the kit. However a little too garlicy for me to be honest.

Alternatively you can use the puccia to make sandwiches with or even use as an alternative to toast for breakfast so with my other puccia I decided to cook for breakfast and top with avocado, smoked salmon and poached egg. It was a real treat as the dough once toasted it tasted so different to normal bread as it is so fluffy and airy.

UPDATE ordered some more

In fact week later I purchased a DIY pizza kit which this time around I created the Italian flag with my pizza.

Pizza Bellissima me

Fantastico!

The Bellissima kit I was sent on a gifted basis costs £35.99 and I certainly feel the amount of food which comes within this food package is worth the cost.

All the ingredients were super fresh and the pizza dough was a real heavenly thin crust delight. It seriously did make me feel like I was eating a real pizza made from within Italy, not an English version.

Also the beauty about the kit was everything was made so easy to understand as it came with a simple easy instruction booklet and even each pack had instructions printed upon.

All that was missing for me though was an Italian sweet treat for dessert like a Tiramisu perhaps but that is the only negative.

The kit provided so much fun and a real feast, so good that no one would be left hungry and if there are just two of you like me it will last you for days or weeks as it comes with four pizza bases after all.

I highly recommend this kit if you love pizza and want to have a go at creating your own freshly made pizza. I will certainly be purchasing another kit.

So make a night at home, become a pizzeria for the night, and make it an event that everyone in the family can enjoy. As who doesn’t like pizza?
