Six by Nico is a restaurant like no other which can be found within Charlotte Street, London, W1. At Six by Nico diners get to enjoy a gastronomic six course tasting menu which reflects a different theme which changes every six weeks, hence the name Six by Nico.
I had the pleasure of attending their first themed menu when they opened back in July on a complimentary basis as an ambassador for Six by Nico. This September I yet again had the pleasure to experience Six by Nico’s second newest theme ‘Childhood’ which brings food we all grew up with on our plates but with a twist.
Six by Nico
Nico Simeone whom is a Scottish chef learned his trade at Michelin-starred Number One at Balmoral before opening the much vaunted 111 in Glasgow before moving into the bistro game himself in March 2017 with his first restaurant Six by Nico in Glasgow his home town. Within a year, he launched a sister restaurant in Edinburgh. 2019 Nico added four more Six by Nico restaurants to his portfolio one in Belfast, Manchester, another in Glasgow and one in Liverpool. Now he brings Six by Nico to London with further plans of popping up with potentially one in Dublin, and a second in London.

Six by Nico fine dining at its best
Heading into London again for Six by Nico’s second newest theme ‘Childhood’ I felt like a child again heading to a sweet shop but this time for a gastronomic feast all based on food which I loved as a child.

The 76 seated restaurant is beautifully decorated, spaced out and has a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant design as you can see from my photos is smart, polished and is nicely lit with intimate lighting.

The kitchen is an open kitchen with a pass which gives guests a great look into the kitchen and see the chefs happy at work.

- Beef Burger Doughnut – Sourdough Bread & Roast Chicken Butter
The price for the whole tasting menu is less than half the price of other tasting menus within London making this menu not just exciting of the culinary delights on offer but the price making it affordable for all. Why? as Nico wanted to bring an exciting but affordable six course tasting menu to his diner and this certainly does cover that.
I enjoyed the six course tasting menu along with the wine pairing plus I bought the additional side of the Beef Burger Doughnut.
Beef Burger Doughnut

This mini doughnut like a mini doughnut but instead packed with jam it contained beef turning this doughnut into a dough burger. It was gorgeous with the fluffy flavour the doughnut dough along with the taste of meat.
Lasagne – Crispy Lasagne / Ox Cheek Ragu / Parmesan Espuma

The first course of lasagne even though small it was ever so flavoursome packed with the richness of Ox cheek ragu. Plus it came served up with a nice crunchy Parmesan crisp.
Fish Fingers – Salmon Tartare / Kohlrabi / Lime Gel / Pepper Dulse / Shaoshing Dressing
Wine pairing – Terre Des Dames, Le Rose 2019, Languedoc, France

This second of fish fingers was a take on the classic yellow bread crumbed fish and fingers but a more classier take. Packed with little cubes of salmon tartare this fish finger was like no other. The taste was fishtastic with zesty notes from the dressing. The crisp topping also gave the whole take on this fish finger a nice crunchy added texture.
The wine which was paired with this dish was a glass of Terre Des Dames, Le Rose which comes from Languedoc in France. This wine had fruity notes and nicely rounded on the palate.
Eggy Soldiers – Cacklebean Egg / Brown Butter & Celeriac Espuma / Celeriac Soldier / Lovage
Wine pairing – Strange Kompanjie, The Tea Leaf 2018, Western Cape, South Africa

The third course was a take on the classic childhood brekkie dip dip (egg & soldiers). The egg was encased with a outer crunchy coating and a celeriac soldier to dip into the egg. All worked beautifully together.
The wine that was paired with this dish was a glass of Strange Kompanjie, The Tea Leaf which comes from Western Cape in South Africa. Made from stoned fruits interwoven with hints of rooibos tea, it gave notes of tropical fruits, apple and honey.
Mac ‘n’ Cheese – Truffle Mac’n’Cheese / Cauliflower / Aged Cheddar / Gherkin Ketchup
Wine pairing – The Underworld, Grenache Blanc 2018, Western Cape, South Africa

The fourth course Black Truffle Mac ‘n’ Cheese was a mini version of the classic Mac ‘n’ Cheese but with the added truffle element giving it that added extra earthiness and mushroom flavour. A cheesy mushroom explosion.
The wine that was paired with this dish was a glass of The Underworld, Grenache Blanc which is from Western Cape in South Africa. Has a lovely clean taste of lime and great aroma.
Duck Duck Goose – XO Duck Breast / Leg Bonbon / Gnocchi / Pumpkin & Black Garlic Emulsion
Wine pairing – Les Pivoines , Beaujolais Villages 2017, Burgundy, France

The fifth course Duck Duck Goose was cooked perfectly being slightly pink still. All tasted outstanding and the pumpkin and black garlic emulsion worked beautifully given depth to the whole dish.
The wine that was paired with this dish was a glass of Les Pivoines, Beaujolais Villages from Burgundy in France. A very fruity red wine which is made from crushed strawberries. Soft, vibrant acidity and a mouthwatering floral, morello cherry finish.
Ring-a-Ring-a-Roses – Savarin Creme / Raspberry / Lychee / Rose
Wine pairing – Araldica, Alasia Brachetto 2018, Piemonte, Italy

The sixth course which was pudding time was of Ring a Ring o Roses which was a lovely Savarin creme which was creamy and had hints of flavour of lychee and rose with the raspberries and sorbet giving it that added sharpness.
The wine which was paired with this dish worked beautifully. Araldica, Brachetto d’Acqui comes from Piemonte in Italy. This off dry wine has a lovely vibrant ruby colour, and gives notes of raspberry and rose. A very mouthwatering acidity and a juicy wine.
Six by Nico took me rethinking back to my past childhood moments of food which my mum and grandma used to serve but Nico’s take on the old classics I used to love was a great alternate, very classy and grown up.
However Six by Nico is not just all about taking me and others back to past memories or moments within our lives by serving up food with unique twists but to give a relaxing experience like no other and being able to watch the chefs at work is a real treat. As you can see they are all very happy chefs and are all extremely passionate about their job and giving us diners a great experience.

Verdict
Six by Nico provided a great six course menu serving up great classics of childhood dishes with a twist.

Every dish was exceptional and it is very hard for me to say which was my favourite but I must admit I was very fond of the very grown up salmon fish and fingers. The whole dish was beautifully executed and the flavour was exceptional, fresh, zesty and crisp.
