What is Persian food?
Persian food comes from Iran. Persian dishes are a fusion from neighbouring regions from Turkey, Levant, Greece, Asia, and Russia.
Persian dishes are incredibly diverse due to the wide range of cultural inspirations and available native ingredients. It has been around for thousands of years being one of the world’s oldest cuisine styles.
Typical Persian dishes are combinations of rice with meat, vegetables and nuts. Herbs are also frequently used, along with fruits such as apricots, prunes, pomegranates, plums, and raisins. Plus flavourings such as dried lime, saffron, cinnamon, turmeric and parsley are mixed and used in numerous dishes.
Persian ready meals, no prepping, no cooking, no cleaning, no mess.
Taste of Persia at home
Upon receiving my box of Shuro Shirin meals I was highly impressed how it was packed as not only was the food still frozen but all the packaging is environmentally friendly and recyclable.
It comes wrapped in 100% pure sheep wool which keeps the food cold. Sheep’s wool is sustainable, compostable, and has superior insulative properties, more effective than other solutions at keeping contents consistently colder for longer. Plus is also biodegradable meaning that at the end of it’s life, the wool can be returned to the soil, where it decomposes, releasing valuable nutrients into the ground. If you do throw out though and ends up at the landfill within 6 to 12 months, it will have broken down, and never to be seen again. The gel packs are 100% recyclable and non-toxic and completely food safe. The gel packs can also be reused, great for picnics or lunchboxes, but if you want to dispose of them, simply cut the corner off the pack and dispose of the contents. The contents are benign, given the dilution of the polymer and purification of the water, they are not at all harmful to the environment.
Plus their pretty highly informative cardboard sleeves can be recycled as they are made from an average of 85 per cent recycled PET. The trays are created from a natural mix of recycled PET, the film is also recyclable.

All of their frozen meals can keep for up to 6 months. The beauty however about Shuro Shirin frozen meals is that it can be cooked straight from frozen, no need to worry about getting out the night before. Just reach into the freezer, and grab yourself a quick, nutritious meal by Shuro Shirin.
Ready meal ready
I enjoyed numerous dishes from their soups to their comforting stews. It was also nice to learn not only will I be eating a nutritional dish but they are all been prepared in the Halal way.
Soups
Their soups can be cooked from frozen in the microwave or defrost and cook on the hob. Within around 10 minutes you’ll have a perfectly tasty soup.

Their Creamy Barley Soup (Soup-e Jo) is a comforting soup which was packed with barley, perfect for those cold nights. Mild but creamy.

Lamb, Potato & Bean Soup (Abgoosht) is a one pot comfort. Has chunks of lamb, potato, tomato, beans and dried limes. All the ingredients worked wonderfully together and provided a great tasting soup with a hint of smokiness to it. I loved the hit of limes.
Stews
Their stews all can be cooked from frozen in the oven or microwave.

Aubergine & Split Pea Stew (Gheymeh Bademjan) is vegan friendly and extremely tasty. Smoky, aromatic, and has a slightly tangy taste. A little too smoky for my liking but my husband loved it.

Chicken, Pomegranate & Walnut Stew (Fesenjan) provided a rich, sweet & tasty sour stew which had chunks of chicken within and ground walnuts & pomegranate molasses. Very comforting.

Lamb & Yellow Split Pea Stew (Gheymeh) is a slow cooked tomato based stew which consists of succulent pieces of lamb, yellow split peas and dried lime. Smoky meaty stew which gives a great richness of tomato. A little too smoky for me but loved the lamb pieces.

Lamb, Kidney Bean & Herb Stew (Ghormeh Sabzi) takes a day to make so having this already prepared and ready to cook from frozen is a result. Full of tender pieces of lamb, which have been slowly cooked in a mixed fresh herb sauce, with dried limes & red kidney beans. A filling comforting dish for the winter nights.
Dips
All their dips can be cooked from frozen in the oven or microwave.

Smoked Aubergine & Tomato Dip (Mirza Ghasemi) is loaded with large aubergine pieces this dish gave a full filling smoky flavour. Great with crusty bread.

Grilled Aubergine & Walnut Dip (Kashk-e Bademjan) is an aubergine dip with walnuts. Simply a taste of delicious aubergine and walnuts. Perfect with warm pita bread.
Sides
The rice can be cooked from frozen either in the oven or microwave.

Saffron Rice (Polow ba Zafferan) brings to the table a fluffy and aromatic saffron rice which compliments any of Shuro Shirin dish stews. Their rice is made with premium long grain white rice. Even though it looked beautiful it tasted a little dry to me unfortunately.
Verdict
The beauty for me about Shuro Shirin is that all their food was easy to cook, just grab from the freezer and pop into the oven. No matter what meal or meals you grab all can be cooked for 40-45 minutes from frozen. So no need for defrosting the night before or getting pots and pans out. Plus all of their dishes last for up to 6 months so no need to panic in eating within a month.
I highly enjoyed many of the dishes despite one or two being a little too smoky for my liking but all in all the meals were flavoursome and comforting. In particular I loved the Lamb, Potato & Bean Soup (Abgoosht) and Chicken, Pomegranate & Walnut Stew (Fesenjan) each so tasty. I will certainly be looking in purchasing some of Shuro Shirin meals to store in my freezer for the winter months.
