Whittard Chelsea Hot Chocolate Halloween treat

To celebrate this Halloween, Whittard Chelsea have bought out a few scarily good hot chocolates. Forget candy, treat yourself, get cosy, and toast up an eerie mug of indulgent hot chocolate.

Courtesy of Whittard I was gifted PR samples of their limited edition Halloween hot chocolates to enjoy at home.

Whittard Chelsea

Walter Whittard back in the 19th century at the age of 17 he took on a job with a tea trader in London’s bustling city centre. Eight years later he opened up his own shop W.H. Whittard in the bustling Fleet Street, with a simple philosophy to ‘buy the best’. Walter insisted on blending his tea and roasting his coffee on site. It wasn’t long before Walter started to make a name for himself.

In 1935 Walter died, and the business was left to his sons Dick and Hugh. It was a tough time to take over any business with the Great Depression being felt across Europe, then followed by a war and The Great Fire of London. Undeterred, the Whittard brothers took the helm of their father’s philosophy to ‘buy the best’ firmly entrenched in their minds not letting any of the disasters that hit them deter them.

After Whittard lost its warehouse to the blitz, Dick and Hugh quickly set about finding a new warehouse. It wasn’t long before they decided to up stakes and move their entire business in the 40’s from their shop to a warehouse in Chelsea.

Sadly due to a train accident Hugh died in 1967, and Dick passed away in 1985.

1970 W.H. Whittard & Co. became Whittard of Chelsea. Ever since, being handed the reins by Dick in the 70s Chelsea has played an integral part of the brands identity for almost 50 years.

1999 Whittard came to Covent Garden bringing new beginnings of a flagship store filled with loose leaf tea, aromatic coffee and creative hot chocolate. It was an instant hit with Londoners and day-trippers. Visit today and you’ll find a treasure trove of wonders to discover, including a tea bar serving all-day afternoon tea.

Boil me up some Hot chocolate

Whittard Chelsea are known for their superb tasting tea but did you know that they also sell hot chocolate?

This October for a limited time they have released two different festive Halloween blends of a Sticky Toffee Pudding White Hot Chocolate and Toffee Popcorn Flavour White Hot Chocolate.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding White Hot Chocolate is inspired by the classic British dessert.

It provided a great creamy cup of gloriously indulgent white hot chocolate with lingering toffee and caramel notes with hints of spice.

Just add 3 heaped tsps of the powder into a cup of hot boiled milk for the ultimate smooth, creamy cup. If you can’t drink milk it can be added to hot water.

Scarily indulgent.

I also got creative and made a panna cotta with it.

Sticky Toffee Pudding Chocolate Panna Cotta

Serves 2

  • 1 leave gelatine
  • 160ml double cream
  • 60ml milk
  • 20g light brown sugar
  • 25g Sticky Toffee Pudding Hot Chocolate powder

  1. Soak the gelatine in a bowl of cold water for 5 minutes. Put the double cream, milk, light brown sugar and powder in a pan over a low heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved, then take off the heat. Squeeze the water from the gelatine, add to the pan and mix until dissolved.
  2. Ladle the mixture into panna cotta moulds, then carefully transfer to the fridge for 6 hours, or until set.

Was lush a great tasting creamy toffee treat perfect for any night especially Halloween.

The Limited Edition Toffee Popcorn Flavour White Hot Chocolate is just like popcorn but in a drink form.

The rich creaminess of the white chocolate combined with the buttery sweet flavours of fluffy popcorn makes this a hit especially if watching a movie.

Just add 3 heaped tsps of the powder into a cup of hot boiled milk for the ultimate movie night drink. If you can’t drink milk it can be added to hot water.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Both hot chocolates are delicious and scarily indulgent but the hot chocolate which I loved the most was most definitely the Sticky Toffee as it was just like Sticky Toffee but in a drink form. Full of toffee flavour and spice notes. It has become my top favourite hot chocolate of all time.
