Vemacity it’s gin o’clock after 96 hours

We are a nation of gin drinkers, and as a lover of gin myself, I and many others are naturally curious about how gin is made and flavoured. Thanks to Vemacity I learnt the basis of how to make a gin with botanicals at home. I never knew that gin started from infusing vodka with juniper berries for 48 hours before adding botanicals to flavour and infuse for yet another 48 hours. After 96 hours it then was soon gin o’clock time where I could celebrate with a lovely glass of my homemade flavoured gin within a balloon copa gin glass.

I was gifted on a courtesy basis from Vemacity their ultimate gin making kit and engraved gin glasses.

Vemacity

Vemacity was set up back in 2018 by two Londoner’s who loves gin and wants to spread the enjoyment of gin to all.

Their passion is to create a new way to experience gin and tonic through their products. There are so many incredibly delicious gins out there to discover and experiment with but they wanted was to bring a gin and tonic experience to all like no other. To them a great gin experience is anchored within the moment that you create around it. Time, effort, attention to detail and knowledge are equally as important when experiencing gin.

Vemacity brings to the world a new and interesting way to enjoy gin. They believe a great gin and tonic should be served the right way and engage all the senses. So, they set out to create specialist barware and gin gifts which elevates the experience of drinking gin at home.

Vemacity has rewritten the rules on how a G&T should be served. Gone are the days of the straight glass with a couple of ice cubes, slither of citrus fruit and tonic. Sip on your own infused gin from their handmade copa gin glasses and enjoy your gin o’clock time.

Gin botanical magic

Before I tell you more about how to make gin did you know that gin originated as a medicinal liquor which was made by monks and alchemists across Europe to provide aqua vita from distillates of grapes and grains? It then became an object of commerce in the spirits industry.

Today, Gin is produced in different ways from a wide range of botanicals giving rise to a number of distinct styles and brands. After adding juniper as the main ingredient, gin then is flavoured with botanicals. It is mostly then commonly consumed mixed with tonic water.

Receiving my box of The Ultimate Gin Making Kit and copa gin glasses I was excited to get started.

The kits come with a jigger and mixing spoon which you can either have in silver, rose gold, or gold plus it comes with 10 botanicals, and a handy booklet with eight gintastic recipes within. The kit in total can make up to 10 bottles of your very own unique botanical rich, fragrant gin at home from a show stopping colour changing gin through to a beautiful pink gin.

Provided with all the necessary botanicals and tools it was as easy as 1, 2, 3 to get started following one of the easy recipes or even get creative and make your own unique flavour.

Gin o’clock time

All you will need to get started in making your very own gin at home is 70cl bottle of inexpensive vodka and Vemacity ultimate gin making kit which contains a selection of 13 different botanicals from lemongrass, cacao nibs, rose petals and so much more.

With the kit there is enough botanticals to make 10 bottles of gin in a variety of flavours. I chose to make all eight of the recipes within Vemacity booklet but as I did not have enough bottles of vodka to make 10 bottles I adapted the recipe by dividing the ingredients into four and used jars to store.

First thing first add the vodka and juniper berries together to infuse to give that piney background note which all gin is known for and leave for 48 hours.

After 48 hours has passed it was time to strain the botanicals from the gin then onto making Vemacity ginnovation gins. It was lovely to see the colour which had occurred after infusing each one for four days from yellows, pinks and a deep blue.

Measuring out 50ml of gin from one of my homemade batches with my jigger I poured it into my copa gin glass along with some ice and a can of tonic for my gin o’clock moment. Sipping slowly enjoying each sip. Each can be kept stored and kept up to a year so if you end up making lots you don’t need to panic and drink them all.

Crafty Classic this is a citrus gin which has a blend of lemon and orange peel.

Citrus Symphony is a stronger version of the Crafty Classic just with extra citrus peel.

Chocolate Delight is an infusion of cacao nibs.

Chocolate Jaffa is an infusion of cacao, orange and lemon peel.

Hot Pink is a blend of hibiscus, roses and pink peppercorns.

Classic Pink is infused with hibiscus, roses, orange and lemon peel.

Throat Warmer is an infusion of pink peppercorns, cassia bark, orange and lemon peel.

Magical Gin is made slightly differently as you add Butterfly Pea Flower to a bought gin which you then infuse for 12 hours and this will give a stunning blue colour plus when you come to add tonic and a squeeze of lemon to it, it will change to a pinky colour as you can see from the images above.

I enjoyed all the gins which I made, but my personal favourite was the Crafty Classic and Classic Pink. Did you know though that 80% of flavours we taste come from our smell rather than our tastebuds? that is why gin is best served in a gin glass like the Vemacity copa gin glass as it helps release more aromas with every sip.

Vemacity copa gin glasses hold 700ml gin and come with a jigger and stirrer in either silver, rose gold, or gold. Each can be engraved with your own special message and in a variety of fonts. I had one of my glasses engraved with Stay In or Go Out and the other Eat Drink Living. Even though pretty and large the glass is very thin and I did actually end up breaking one when placing ice into it.

This was my first ever gin making experience and I found it easy and fun. I will most defiantly be getting experimental with the botanicals when I make some further batches.

Which gin appealed to you the most?

Verdict

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I loved The Ultimate Gin Making Kit by Vemacity with it’s classy jigger and stirrer provided along with the fresh botanicals. It was a super fun experience and I have learned so much about gin thanks to this kit. All of the recipes are easy to follow and I was stunned by the results of each gin as each resulted in a lovely colour, smell and taste.

Vemacity copa glasses even though pretty, round, and large I personally think they were a little too thin so quite fragile and I discovered that when I actually broke one by placing ice in the glass. However I love the idea of having them engraved and how you can get each of the two etched with a different message of your choice in a font of your choice. They also come packed in a lovely box with a jigger and stirrer in the colour of your choice.

Vemacity gin making kit and glasses are most definitely the perfect present for any gin lover or friend in your life or even as a gift for yourself.
