Puff Puff golden balls of delight

Upon receiving my African Food Box I was excited in trying these out as I have always heard about these African sweet treats which can be found cooked within many markets within Africa. I leant that Puff Puff are a traditional snack which is made of fried dough and variations are seen across the continent. Plus that it is paired usually with a glass of malt.

The box consists of 5g yeast, 5g sugar, 250g flour, 50g sugar, 1.5g nutmeg, 5g salt, 15g cinnamon sugar, 5g roasted peanuts, 30g chocolate sauce, wood skewers and instruction card. The extra ingredients that was additionally required was water and oil to fry the balls.

Following the instruction card I found making these golden balls of Puff Puff a delight. Mixing, proofing, scooping and frying it was super easy. Within around an 1 hour and 10 minutes I had a plate of the famous Puff Puff.

To me they tasted similar to churros and the hot fried doughnuts you can buy when visiting the seaside or funfair. However these freshly baked balls once cooked are not as doughy as our traditional doughnuts making them fluffier and more moorish. Plus the chocolate, sugar and cinnamon topping made it that extra indulgent.

How many could you eat ?

Verdict

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Puff Puff balls are prefect for those who love such sweet treats of churros or doughnuts. They are dough balls of fluffiness, crispiness and extremely tasty. The box came with everything needed to make a plate of Puff Puff which there was enough for 4 and the recipe card made them easy to create at home. If you are not one for sweet treats though African Food Box also sell savoury African delights which you can recreate at home.

Highly recommend these Puff Puff’s if you are missing hot doughnuts or churros. Perfect as a treat, or to serve at your next birthday party or celebration.
