We all love a sweet or sour snack to munch on and Popcorn Shed popcorn is the answer as they sell a wide variety of popcorn from Salted Caramel to Blue Cheese popcorn. Popcorn Shed popcorn comes in handy boxes shaped like a shed with a viewing window displaying their yummy popcorn. Popcorn is widely consumed worldwide which is generally eaten within theatres, cinemas and at home.
Popcorn dates back as early as 4700 BC as evidence of corn which was popped was discovered within Peru by archaeologists. From the 19th century, popcorn which could be popped up at home was sold across the USA under the name Pearls of Nonpareil it was not till 1848 that the actual term popcorn came about. All that was required to achieve that perfect fresh tasting popcorn at home was a stove, pan with lid, oil or butter and the kernels. Popcorn was in fact a widely consumed breakfast cereal by the Americans which they added to milk and sweeteners. Since the 1800s popcorn has evolved and can be cooked in a variety of ways from within an air popped popcorn machine to microwaving within a microwavable bag.
What is popcorn though you might ask? Well popcorn is a corn kernel which when heated within oil expands and puffs up. Each kernel of popcorn contains a certain amount of moisture and oil. The outer hull of the popcorn kernel is strong and impervious to moisture and the starch inside consists almost entirely of a hard type. As the oil and water within the kernel are heated, they turn the moisture in the kernel into pressurized steam. Under these conditions, the starch inside the kernel gelatinizes, softens and becomes pliable. The internal pressure of the entrapped steam continues to increase until the breaking point of the hull is reached. The hull there upon ruptures rapidly and explodes, causing a sudden drop in pressure inside the kernel and a corresponding rapid expansion of the steam, which expands the starch and proteins of the endosperm into airy foam. As the foam rapidly cools, the starch and protein polymers set into the familiar crispy puff. When the popcorn has finished popping, sometimes un-popped kernels remain. Known in the popcorn industry as old maids, these kernels fail to pop because they do not have enough moisture to create enough steam for an explosion.

Popcorn at home
I love to eat popcorn anytime of the day but I do like variety which Popcorn Shed sells a great range.
With sweet and sour ranges to choose from I opted for the 6 Shed Sweet Bundle – Never Sweet Enough I have a sweet tooth.

I received six different flavours all of which were equally as tasty.
Union Shack – Cherry bakewell popcorn
This popcorn did not just look lovely with a red speckled ting but tasted amazing. I don’t usually like cherry flavoured snacks and desserts but this Cherry Bakewell blew me away literally. It tasted very much like a Cherry Bakewell. Intensely flavoursome, with a great bite and chewiness all thanks to the gourmet kernels and sour cherries used.
Pecan Pie – Caramel popcorn with pecan nut pieces
Golden in colour this popcorn was a nutty delight. Loaded with pecan flavour and pieces of pecans mixed within giving an extra texture and crunch. Even though I loved this popcorn I would of loved to of had more pecan nuts within the packet as I only had about 4 pieces of pecans in my packet.
Salted Caramel – Salted caramel popcorn with milk chocolate
As a lover of salted caramel this popcorn did not disappoint. It was sweet and had that hint of saltiness to it. Crunch after crunch I could not stop eating these golden balls of sweet salty delights. I can see why this was one of their award winning popcorns (Great Taste 2017).
Berry-licious – Caramel & raspberry popcorn with dark chocolate
Dark brown and speckled within pink this popcorn was an explosion of flavour from the chocolate hit to the summery explosion of raspberries. The chocolate and caramel gave it that creaminess and sweetness and the raspberries that extra hit of fruity sharpness. I can see why this was one of their award winning popcorns (Great Taste 2018).
Peanut Butter – Peanut butter caramel popcorn with peanuts
If you love peanut butter like me then you’ll love this box of peanut butter popcorn. Golden balls of delight this caramelly and sweet popcorn was truly heavenly, as it provided a great taste of peanuts and a sweet buttery hit. I would of though loved more peanut pieces within the popcorn which I felt there was a lack of.
Pop ‘n’ Choc – Chocolate caramel popcorn with milk chocolate
Speckled brown this popcorn was buttery, caramelly and sweet. A real treat for any lover of chocolate and popcorn.
Which flavour takes your fancy?

All the popcorn is made using all-natural ingredients and are gluten free making it a perfect snack anytime of the day. Out of all the flavours I tried though my favourite was the Union Shack as the popcorn really did have a wonderful hit of cherry flavour.
