Are you looking for a luxurious but inexpensive overnight stay within Southampton before you board a cruise? Then I highly recommend room2 which is located near the town centre and the port of Southampton.
room2 is the world’s first luxurious 4 star hometel brand which offers all the comforts of home with the service of a hotel. Their hometel within Southampton has 71 spacious rooms comes complete with a fully equipped kitchen, spacious bathroom, dining area, television, sofa and a large king size bed all of which is like a home living experience. Some rooms overlook Queens Park and others the harbour. Simply room2 is a place to live, not just stay for the night.
I was kindly gifted a stay at room2 on a press related basis to show me that hometels are much better than hotels.
room2
In 2014 the original room2 concept was conceived and in late 2016 they launched their Hammersmith Townhouse. room2 understands peoples accommodation needs from a bed to a kitchen.
room2 was founded by two brothers Rob & Stu who come from Hammersmith area. On there travels they were tired of staying in soulless accommodation, and decided to create room2 to bring unique staycations.
Presently room2 can be found within Chiswick, Hammersmith and Southampton. However by 2030 they hope to have opened up 5000 hometels across the UK.
room2 Southampton is ranked 𝗻𝗼.𝟭 𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿 and has even won TripAdvisor Travellers Choice 2021 award.
Their purpose is to give people a place to live, not just stay for the night.
A home from home feeling
Heading on down to Southampton for the night before boarding Sky Princess for a press trip I wanted to experience something different rather than a hotel. When I heard about room2 which provides all the comforts of home I just to had to check them out.

room2 is not a standard class hotel with a bed and bathroom but much more than that as they are hometels which are basically like mini studio flats. Their hometel has 71 spacious rooms which span over five floors and have spectacular views over Queens Park and the ocean, all which come complete with a fully equipped kitchen, large king size beds and plenty of space to work or relax.
A home from home stay at room2
I was kindly gifted an overnight stay on a PR basis in which I stayed within a Master Loft room.
Firstly I have to add the beauty about staying at room2 is that you can check in from 2pm and check out at 2pm. No need to check out early around 10am/11am like other hotel accommodation.
So upon arriving at room2 we parked up our car within their secure private car park which is gated and can only be accessed via a security code. Upon entering the reception we were warmly welcomed. I was also stunned by the beauty once entering this hometel from the bright colours and modern furniture.

Also on the ground floor there is a fully licenced bar where you can purchase either a drink or even freshly brewed coffee 24 hrs a day. There are also several dining/lounge areas which you can chill and unwind in or even play some games of either chess say which can be found within the lounge areas. Plus there is a mini pantry with a great choice of food and necessities. Also a gym plus a laundry room.

Heading into our Master Loft room for the night I was highly surprised by the size of the room it was huge. The room certainly had everything from
- a digital radio
- 49” TV with Chromecast
- superfast WiFi
- USB charging port
- a two ring hob
- kitchen utilities
- microwave
- dishwasher
- fridge
- tea & biscuits
- hair dryer
- XL towels
- full length mirror
- toiletries
- King size bed
- fusion bed
- premium bed linen
- blackout curtains
Chilled and relaxed
Me and my husband Jason we certainly made the most of our stay within room2 Master Loft.
Firstly we unpacked and then went out and explored Southampton.
Everything is within easy walking distance from the High Street to the harbour. To discover attractions and more there is a map with tourist information which you can grab from within the reception area. Plus the reception staff are more than happy to help give any recommendations for a place to eat out at etc.

This is the area to hang and store clothes it is a little on the small side so if you are planning to stay longer than a week bear this in mind.

We then came back and played a few games which you can find within a black box within the room. Contains dominos and packs of cards.

In the evening we grabbed a takeaway from Mikes Fish & Chips which was recommended to us by Solent Ships. We ate at the table within our room which there was ample space for four. Mikes Fish & Chips was excellent and certainly great value. The portions were huge. Plus if you love cruising and love watching cruises leave from the port head over to Solent Ships. You can watch a live camera feed of cruises coming in and out of Southampton with live commentary.

Took in the view of Queens Park from the window and even watched some TV from the comfy sofa. What I really loved was the large window as it was floor to ceiling brining in much light. Plus with the black out curtains it prevented any light seeping into the room in the evening.

The bed provided a great nights sleep. The King Size bed was really comfy and heard hardly any noise from outside. Plus if you have children they will love the fusion bed up the stairs.

Showered in the large walk in shower which was so spacious and the water hot.

For the morning you can order a room2 Breakfast Bag which usually consist of cereal, milk, fresh fruit, orange juice, a fresh pastry and a yoghurt. If you have any dietary requirements this can be taken into account and altered accordingly. Breakfast Bags are usually dropped off outside your door in the morning between 6-9am on weekdays or 6-10am on weekends.

Alternatively you can always cook an egg on the hob for breakfast or cook some bacon. The choice is yours in how you want to enjoy your stay.
Verdict
Simply room2 really is the Ideal place to stay be it before flying, taking a train into Southampton or an overnight stay before boarding a cruise for a seacation.
Their rooms certainly have been designed to be lived in, with plenty of space for a workout, a huge kitchen to cook up a feast and desks which are perfect for working from. The space within certainly is optimised for comfort, safety and well-being, with those special extra little touches too. Look out also for the quirky quotes which you can find around the apartment.
Also room2 is very Covid conscious as all their rooms are deep cleaned before and after every stay. So you can be in the knowledge that your stay is safe, sound and Covid free.
I highly recommend room2 I for sure will be rebooking a stay when I am next in Southampton or even if I visit any of the other areas in which they are presently based.
