Haufson cookware press day with guest chef Nancy Lam

Haufson’s kitchen utensils and cookware are exquisite as all their products are classy and high in quality giving the best cooking experience. I have a few of their products such as their pink cute heart shaped pancake pan which is ideal for Valentines but never knew about their wok until now.

I was lucky enough to be invited down to Haufson special press day to learn about their wok within School of Wok Kitchen whilst being demonstrated by a celebrity chef.

I attended the event where Nancy Lam cooked with a Haufson wok whilst she fried up some prawns and showed us how easy the wok is to use, without burning or overcooking the prawns. The other classes also had demos by Emily Roux (Michel Roux Jr daughter) and Chef Exose who was on MasterChef the Professionals. He is now chef de partie at James Martin restaurant in Manchester.

Wok time with Nancy Lam

I am a massive fan of Haufson Cookware but I am also a fan of celebrity chefs. So when I got an invite to come down to learn more about Haufson’s wok and see Nancy Lam demonstrate how to use the wok I was beyond excited, as I’ve wanted to meet Nancy for a long time. The wok and Nancy both did not disappoint.

Meeting Nancy Lam

Meeting Nancy Lam was a dream come true as I have wanted to meet her for a long time. She was super sweet and eccentric making us all laugh during the class when she used a Haufson wok whilst she cooked us up some yummy prawns.

Who is Nancy Lam though? Nancy is a celebrity chef known for her Indonesian & Thai cooking. She has appeared on many TV shows starting with her very own cooking show which was aired on Channel 5 back in 1997. Since then, she has been a regular guest on various cookery shows, including Daily CooksMarket Kitchen and This Morning. She has also taken part in reality shows and gameshows such as Big Brother’s Big MouthHole in the WallSaturday Night Takeaway and Let’s Dance for Comic Relief. Nancy also made a guest appearance in Big Brother 2010 (UK) to cook Thai food for the five remaining housemates.

Nancy Lam also has her own restaurant in London’s Battersea called Enak Enak which has been running for over 30 years . She cooks and serves up Indonesian style family dishes Her signature dish is her Satay which is made from scratch using peanut sauce which is created from a 40 year old family recipe. Other favourites include her Barbecued Prawns, Beef Rendang & Gado Gado.

Haufson wok demo

Within School of Wok’s kitchen Nancy Lam demonstrated to us all as she cooked some of her delicious prawns dipped in batter using Haufson wok. It was easy to see how easy it was to cook and move the pan around.

Haufson Black & Golden Marble Wok is 30cm in size and made from non stick material meaning that the batter did not stick at all to the pan. Also with it’s deep curved sides there was no spillage when she flipped using it, keeping everything in the pan. Plus thanks to the curved sides it facilitated fast and evenly heat resulting in less time to cook.

What makes the wok special? The wok is special as it has a long handle which stays cool, comfortable and safe to hold as well as easy to toss stir-fries. The material used for the wok is 5-layers as it is made from high quality, PFOA-free non stick coating from the finest natural non stick and marble material that makes movement in the wok seamless and easy to clean.

Why are woks great? Well you can use less oil in cooking which means your meals will be healthier. The design allows your food to land in hot oil as you stir-fry. Plus as of it’s size it is enjoyable to cook with and large enough to prepare food for four to five people.

Nancy particularly loved using the wok as she said the handle was comfy plus the curviness and depth of the wok was a great size.

It was great watching her toss her prawns within the wok. All came out wonderfully crisp and golden on the outside and maintained moistness on the inside. Plus there was no bits of batter stuck to the pan at all.

Verdict

Rating: 5 out of 5.

It was a great demonstration by Nancy Lam and has made me now want a Haufson wok myself. I loved the look and the depth of the wok, the long comfy looking handle and the lid which comes with it, as not many woks come with lids. So with that in mind you don’t necessary have to use it as a wok all the time.

I think classes like these by Haufson are particularly good as you can see their products actually in action and get good advice and tips on how to use them properly by professionals.
