Then you’ll love Lola’s Underground Casino in the basement of the Hippodrome in London
Lola’s was set up in memory of Lola McGuire who was no ordinary show girl. In the early 1900’s she created and ran the under-stage after parties at the Hippodrome, organising gambling, money lending through her own makeshift bank, operating a cellar bar using gin ‘salvaged’ from the barges making their regular trips up the Thames from bankside distilleries. It is even rumoured she offered every customer owing her money a chance to win it back on the turn of a card. She never lost and the whisper at The Hippodrome is that Lola had some powerful friends on the dark side.
She disappeared into the London fog on 28th September 1914 and no trace of Lola McGuire has since been found. Some believe she was the victim of a disgruntled gambler or jealous wife: others that she has simply vanished into the London smog to avoid the increasing attentions of the Metropolitan police.
Lola’s Underground Casino brings punters and people looking for a good night a mix of breath-taking entertainment.
Hippodrome’s creative team have partnered with Strut and Fret (Blanc de Blanc, Limbo and Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour) to bring all extraordinary performances. Using the tradition of Lola’s live performance and the best technology available, find yourself in a world of myth and illusion worthy of Lola McGuire herself.
Every Wednesday and Thursday join HM secret service in an evening of Double o Heaven featuring some of the greatest hits from your favourite Bond movies.
Friday fly to Sin City and hit the Las Vegas strip with sensational show girls, sizzling sorcery and mind blowing magic.
Saturday travel through time and watch the history of the Hippodrome theatre unfold as vintage meets digital in our circus show. World class performers bring to life tales of bygone days.
All performances run from 8pm to midnight.
