London Zoo is is the world’s oldest scientific zoo. It was opened in London back on 27 April 1828 and originally was a place for scientific studies. In 1847 it opened to the public as a zoo for people to learn and admire a collection of over 673 species of animals, with 19,289 individuals, making it one of the largest collections in the United Kingdom.

The zoo is open everyday of the year except Christmas day.

Christmas Light Trial

On select dates between Thursday 22 November and Monday 1 January visitors can journey through the Zoo on a festive Christmas light trail, experiencing the landmark in a different light at night.  Guests will get to enjoy series of illuminated animal sculptures, light tunnels and Christmas surprises.

  • Enjoy fountains at the historic Lubetkin penguin pool

  • Wander under an unforgettable canopy of over 100,000 gently glistening lights
  • Marvel at glittering flying flamingos and towering giraffe sculptures

Head Whilst adventuring through why not enjoy a warming glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate, from the Zoo’s Christmas village for traditional treats including toasted marshmallows and roasted chestnuts.

Zoo Nights

Zoo Nights are held during Summer on Friday nights. Where visitors will be able to put their putting skills to the test at the Plonk crazy golf 9-hole course! which feature crazy loops, balancing beams and radical ramps taking golfers on a animal kingdom journey.

You’ll also be able to have a guided tour called You’ll Never See a Moon-walking Emu,where you can discover the strangest animal facts you never thought you needed to know, and will certainly never forget. Or, back by popular demand, find out what animals really get up to after dark in our Birds and the Bees tour, where their expert guides will help you unravel the mysteries of sex in the animal kingdom.
