Flabbergast Theatre: The Swell Mob – Be afraid of the puppet

Flabbergast Theatre brings to London The Swell Mob.  For any immersive theatre lover this is a must.

The show first premiered in Edinburgh last summer in which it won the Edinburgh Festival Fringe award. 

For three month’s Flabbergast Theatre will run at the COLAB Factory giving theatre goers a world of Victorian depravity set in an 1830s taproom with sideshows, vaudeville turns and even a boxing ring.

Formed in 2010 Flabbergast was set up to make uncompromising and exciting physical theatre in a belief that all theatre should be engaging and sweaty. Providing puppetry and physical comedy and its application in both devised theatre and work on existing texts, their leaning is currently towards Bunraku Puppetry and clowns.

Facing zombies – The Walking Dead: Art Apocalypse

The Walking Dead a long running zombie series is returning to Fox 11th February for it’s second half of it’s ninth season.  As to get fans excited agency Premier Comms bought to London’s Old Truman Brewery (8th / 9th February) a zombie lovers interactive pop up called ‘FOX’s The Walking Dead: Art Apocalypse’.

As I am a huge fan of The Walking Dead and anything to do with zombie’s I just had to pop on down to get a selfie or two with walkers and learn further about what happens behind the scenes to my favourite zombie series.

Guests will be able to view and interact with walkers (zombies), pose within recreated set scenes and play with an assortment of replica props.  There was also plenty of artwork and photos on display, which I must warn is not for the faint hearted.

Swigging back grog with Captain Morgan – Bompas and Parr Lost Lagoon

Shiver me timbers, set designers Bompas and Parr have joint forces with Captain Morgan to give Londoners a nautical adventure to an underground paradise of the Lost Lagoon.

For three months from the beginning of February 2019 until early April, buccaneers will be able to discover a secret island within a secret location in central London to take a journey of wonder on the largest underground lake in the UK.

I was invited on a complimentary basis to adventure through Bompas and Parr’s latest part immersive theatre part bar experience with another buccaneer of my choosing so I just had to have my bestie Steve join me as to keep me safe from them pirates.

Innocent or Guilty – Secret Theatre

Secret Theatre brings back Trial TV but this time it is about a triple homicide. I was invited on a complimentary basis to report about the trial.

Secret Theatre provides productions based on movies taking audiences into an immersive world.

Secret Studio Lab have travelled the world with very unique and immersive Secret Theatre Projects that have entertained a global audience with intimate experiences.

Their very first ever performance was in 2008 of Edward Scissorhands within an abandoned factory in New York. From then on they have grown and grown staging many productions all over the world from a courtroom and crime scenes in Town Hall Hotel London, Romeo and Juliet with a twist on an Island in the Docklands in London, Reservoir Dogs in a warehouse and Se7en Deadly Sins and they are just a few of the amazing productions that they have had.

Up, up and away – Gingerline The Grand Expedition

Gingerline is back and this time they are taking dining adventures up, up and away with their latest adventure of The Grand Expedition.

Gingerline are known for their immersive events which I and some others of Love Pop Ups London have had the pleasure of enjoying on a number of occasions. Click here to read about the other adventures we have taken with Gingerline.

Who is Annie McKenzie? – Scripts for Supper presents The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

Annie McKenzie brings her theatrical supper club dining Scripts for Supper to London this winter with her latest production The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

I was invited courtesy of Annie herself to experience her latest production and enjoy the wonderful Victorian inspired dishes in return for a review.

Who is Annie McKenzie and what is Scripts for Supper?

Annie McKenzie

Actor Annie McKenzie was a semi-finalist on MasterChef 2016 in which she impressed judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace with her bold flavours and classic style of cooking. Even Michelin Starred Marcus Waring called her “A serious cook” with celebrated food critic Jay Rayner commenting that her food was “rich serious and delicious”.

Since then Annie set up her own theatrical dining business Scripts for Supper which fuses together food and theatre.

Scripts for Supper opened it’s door back in 2017 bringing to London a dining theatrical experience.

Her first debut production Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare at The London Cooking Project which received 5* reviews.

Before I give you the low down of our captains log here is the undercover story of what Pirates of Hidden Spirit is about.

The Pirates of Hidden Spirit is a new immersive cocktail experience which will transport guests, or should I say pirates, into an exciting world of mischief and theft as they steal the hidden treasure from the grasps of the U.S Government all whilst enjoying delicious cocktails on board.

For three days each week, Sir Francis Drake’s The Golden Hinde will transform into The Hidden Spirit.

“Legend has it, decades ago, over $2 million in riches were dumped in an unknown location and hidden at sea!

Following the discovery of a cipher stating “The Secret Lies With Elizabeth”, the U.S Government commissioned The Hidden Spirit, which has undergone an epic journey to London to recover the hidden treasure.

Where is the caterpillar I ask the White Rabbit? – The Hunt for the Smoking Caterpillar with BuckBuck Games

I attended BuckBuck Games preview of their latest immersive humorous Alice in Wonderland type game The Hunt for the Smoking Caterpillar in which I got to follow a white rabbit to hunt for Russell the smoking caterpillar on a complimentary basis.

Their latest game is The Hunt for the Smoking Caterpillar.

This brand new immersive game debuts at Owl & Hitchhiker pub in Holloway, combining immersive theatre, escape rooms and murder mystery together. Guests will be competing, cooperating, trading, bribing and blackmailing their way through curious characters, clues and contraptions as they hunt down the smoking caterpillar.

The Hunt for the smoking caterpillar is “Crystal Maze on crystal meth” and this latest trip certainly does promise to plunge teams down into the rabbit hole!

Wannabe film stars – A Door In A Wall : Lights, Camera, Action

I went along to A Door In A Wall latest production Lights, Camera, Action which was a totally new concept to their normal murder mystery type games as this was all about starring in your own mini movies.

A Door In A Wall started out in 2010 and is run by a team of plotters, producers and designers. They create, design and run many immersive events throughout London over the year from treasure hunts to murder mysteries.

This November they have done something different from their norm and have created an immersive event called Lights, Camera, Action which puts you in the spot light. So if you have ever wanted to know what it would be like to star in a movie then this new show is for all you wannabe actors/actresses.
