Do you want Beauty or the Beast? – Beauty and the Feast

Beauty and the Feast is a blend of theatre and a supper club from the designers Darling & Edge.  This is their latest immersive event that is happening in The Vaults with the story being loosely based on the well-known fairy tale Beauty and the Beast.  Be warned though this is not your average panto as this is for adults only, so leave behind your kids.

WARNING there are spoiler alerts throughout my blog so you have been warned. Plus I have added some quotes from the famous Beauty and the Beast story but can you guess which quotes come from which fictional characters?

Open Sesame – Secret Cellar: Brendan Rodrigues

Secret Cellar really is a secret.  Once entering the bar area I was slightly confused where the theatre was as all I could see was a bar and tables. So I went to the bar to ask where is the theatre and they said I had to wait to see. The whole bar area is quite unique with its slightly gothic feel of gargoyles statues and other unique décor set in around the bar. There are also seating areas all dotted around in unique secluded areas making it feel a bit more special if you are in a party of approx. 6 to 8 people. I especially loved the tree house which featured stained glass windows within the area. Continue reading

Learning about halal? – Halal Festival

This was my first time attending a Halal Festival and I am glad I went along as not only was it an excellent event but I also learnt a lot about Halal food and discovered that not all of their food is spicy in which I always believed was. Continue reading

Steak and more steak – Bar + Block

This new Bar + Block in Kings Cross which has recently opened joins the other existing Birmingham and Whiteley restaurants.  There is also another new Bar + Block to open soon in Bath.

Bar + Block in Kings Cross

Bar + Block in Kings Cross shares it’s space within Premier Inn.  Upon entering the restaurant entrance you firstly come across a bar area before getting to the reception desk.  The staff are all very friendly and welcoming.  The restaurant area is quite a large open space with a number of lovely wooden tables dotted around and everything is beige/wooden colours making the place very relaxing on the eyes.  I went along with one of my blogger friends Gemma and we sat in one of the comfy booths on the side which had a window looking out into the reception area of Premier Inn. We also could see the chefs open Kitchen area easily from where we was sat.  I love open kitchen areas as I so love watch the chefs cook. We were firstly presented with a bread basket that consisted of several different types of bread which was lovely and very fresh however we did not get a piece of each different style of bread so we had to break in half each piece which was strange I thought.  Plus there was melted butter in the bottom of the cup holding the bread.

Is it a plane, is it a bird, no it’s Joanne – Zip World

Zip World info

Zip World has popped up literally in Archbishop’s Park for a short time from 18 July to 1 October 2017.

If you are looking for a very unique way to see views from London but with a rush of adrenaline then Zip World is for sure the way to go.

I had the pleasure in being one of the first to try out Zip Worlds new zip wire experience.

Firstly and obviously you have to register and sign a waiver then watch a safety video however with the chatting to other riders with the noise around the park I found it quite hard to hear the commentary from coming from the TV.  It was then onto getting the gear on which is not always an easy feat but Zip Worlds was made a lot easier as they had the kit already laid out on the ground making it easier for us all to see where to put your feet/legs through then followed on by further instructions from the instructors.

After getting all kitted up we then walked down to towards the 35m tower (apparently equivalent to 9 buses high).  This was a feat in it’s self especially someone like me who Continue reading

Down Down Down the rabbit hole – Alice Adventures Underground

I went along to a special press / blogger evening of Alice Adventures Underground in which I adventured down the White Rabbit’s hole. This event is an immersive spin on Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland. This 2017 Olivier Award nominated adventure has returned to The Waterloo Vaults.

It first had a successful run back in 2015 where it had fully sold out but now it has returned for 2017 with even more adventure to have along the way with some new characters.  Usually you can’t take photos on your journey but because I attended a special press night we all got to meet the characters after and take photos with them which was very special and I feel very privileged.

An explosive escape room – Mission: Breakout

Mission: Breakout is an exceptional real-life escape game that is based in the borough of Camden in Central London. It is a fully immersive game that takes place in South Kentish Town’s old disused tube station which closed back in 1924.

Mission: Breakout

The Ghost Tube Station

Upon going down the stairs to the escape room we came across old black and white photographs showing people that used this underground station as a shelter when World War II was happening. The photos made me feel emotionally sad inside and made me think back to how people must of felt back then in that era when the bombs were going off.
