Whitechapel is about an event that happened on 29th of September 1888. Scotland Yard received a gruesome letter written in red. “Dear boss,” it began. What followed was a gruesome account of a murderer’s plan. A notorious figure who has never been caught. A figure known only by his signature… “Yours truly, Jack the Ripper.”
Step into that night as a citizen of Victorian Whitechapel. The streets you walk are haunted by an unseen man, the people consumed by fear and hysteria.
After a sell-out run in November 2016, Whitechapel: Suspects, Lunatics and a Leather Apron is back for its second and final run.
In this experience, you will take on the role of one of the following:
– A member of H-Division’s finest, the police force tasked with catching the killer. The press have made you a joke, the people of Whitechapel hate you, and the killer taunts you from the shadows. It is your job to restore order.
– A member of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee, the protectors of the streets. Led by their incendiary leader, they do what the police will not. The only questions is, how far are you willing to go?
An impoverished citizen of Whitechapel, one of the many souls doing what they must to survive these dangerous streets. Remember though, Whitechapel can be a prosperous place. If you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty, you could rule this town…
Walk the streets of Victorian London and explore the lives of Whitechapel’s residents in a time of mistrust, strife and a full-blown media frenzy. Interact with key characters from the time, have a gin at the Ten Bells, or confess your sins at St Botolph’s. This production is an hour and a half immersive theatrical experience. Every action and choice you make shapes the world around you.
But, be careful, everyone is a suspect in 1888…

“I love going out discovering new and existing restaurants, theatres, immersive experiences and so much more but I also love staying in and discovering new gadgets, gaming and cooking.
As this was my first immersive experience I didn’t really know what to expect from Whitechapel but I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone. The set up was absolutely fantastic with a huge, eerie area to explore and many convincing and interesting characters inhabiting it. I fulfilled the role of a member of H division initially before, somewhat unwittingly, becoming the magistrate, who had an even more critical role in proceedings!
While there were not quite as many jumps or scares as I would have expected, the experience always kept you on your toes, with a variety of dramatic scenes and twists. The depth of the experience and the plethora of evidence to sift through made the job of uncovering the killer a hugely engaging and challenging affair and I got the sense having finished that I had seen only fraction of what had been put on on our behalf.
I got the impression that all of those who took part enjoyed it as much as I did and the large crowd of people who hung around outside the experience afterwards seemed to capture the fact that no one really wanted it to end.

I took part in this immersive event on 9th June.
Before the event i was very nervous, i am not a fan of horror and people jumping out at me and just generally being scared so when i got there i had built this all up in my head.
The event was nothing like this, it was like an immersive play but the events will always be different as you and the group set the way the story will go.
It was a unique experince in the sense we went as a group but we were all split up on the day and this made the experience 10 times better as you cant sit in your comfort zone and hang around with your friends. I met some great people in my group and in the end me and another girl rachel who was doing the same job as me in the event bonded and stuck together:).
You can be split into 3 different groups, you will be sent emails before the event telling you what you are with the backstory and what colour you will need to wear on the day, the groups are;
Citizen: one of the people just doing what they need to,to survive the streets.
Vigilance Committee: the protectors of the streets.
H- division:the police force tasked with catching the killer.
This is another reason the experience is great as you will all expeince the game in a differnt way.
The staging inside is impeccable, it is done so well and the attention to detail is on another level, set wise and the characters!
It was absolutely fantastic! I would definitely advise to book this experience up if your a group of friends, couple, going on a date or just booking it alone.

Ready to step in to the world of Victorian Whitechapel? There’s a murderer on the loose who’s been killing women in the dark of the night, and it’s time to make it stop!
When you purchase your ticket, you are emailed with a group that you will be joining. I was assigned to H-division and told to wear blue. I was a member of the police force, tasked to lock up the culprit along with about 12 others.

Thanks to LovePop Ups London I got to go to this immersive theatre experience in the centre of Whitechapel, London. Based on the cult lore of Jack The Ripper, an unidentified serial killer around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888.
You get to investigate the crimes and decide who was the infamous Jack…..
I’m always searching for new immersive experiences to take part in & somehow Whitechapel: Suspects, Lunatics and a Leather Apron passed me by on its first run last year so I was very pleased to be invited along to try it out as a love London pop ups representative.
A killer is on the loose & it’s up to you to try and find out who could be the one responsible. A couple of days before you arrive you’re told if you’re a member of H division police force, a citizen or, as I was, a member of the Whitechapel vigilance committee.
Each team has its own leader with their own ideas on who it could be and you’re sent out to explore the rather fantastic set of streets that have been recreated, there’s a bar, a church, the police station and of course homes for residents. For the most part you are free to roam and encouraged to interact with the cast to try and gather evidence. This is one of those experiences where anything really can happen and the cast were superb, remaining in character throughout and taking it all in their stride.
I’m more of a person who likes to watch from the sidelines rather than get involved and due to the large number of people taking part in the show that worked out well for me but if you’re more interested in being part of the action then you might find it a bit frustrating.
Our time in Whitechapel passed quickly though and all too soon it’s time to decide who we thought was responsible – were we right? Well now, that would be telling…
Easy to reach place, and you will see a sign hanging in front of a door of what looks like an old warehouse. I love the fact that buildings are being reused, especially this way!!
Make sure you book your experience rather than just go there, you may be disappointed otherwise as only a limited number of people can go in at one time. Four days before you will get an email telling you team you are in. Try to wear an item of the correct colour, it will make it easier for the actors and for the other participants. You will also get another email telling you a bit about the characters. Read them but don’t worry, you don’t have to memorise them as you will meet all of them on the night.
Once you get inside, you will also be given a job, things to do, etc.
I was really impressed by the actors who stayed in characters all the way through. Their costumes look good too! By the way, it’s real gin at the bar! Make sure you know that before you buy a shot to get the pub landlord to give you information!
The goal of the game is simple: you need to find out who the murderer is! To be able to find clues, you need to interact with the actors and follow your boss’s instructions. Then you need to share the information you have with your teammates and nominate a suspect.
I really enjoyed this immersive game. Walking around the set was interesting and the smoke used made it all so mysterious and gloomy!
The actors were lovely and so were the ones who welcomed us on the pavement.
If you are looking for an activity to do with a group of friends or on your own and /or if you fancy yourself as Miss Marple, go for it!!
