Cake or Death – brownies for me

Cake is life. Cake or Death are a vegan bakery which is based in Dalston, London and make the most delicious brownies, cakes and other sweet treats.

Cakes and brownies are commonly made from flour, sugar, butter, egg and other ingredients. However did you know? that the oldest form of cake was in fact made out of bread and has since been modified, covering a wide range of different ways to prepare from a simple lemon loaf to an elaborate chocolate cake.

What makes Cake or Death treats so special though from your traditional cakes is that all of her cakes and sweet treats are all vegan friendly meaning that no butter or eggs are used within her cakes.

I was gifted on a courtesy basis a box of her delicious moorish vegan brownies to sample within the comfort of my own home.

Cake or Death

Back in 2019 Katie the founder of Cake or Death decided to pop up in London with her own bakery but with a difference, as she just sells sweet treats which are all vegan friendly.

She started off mainly supplying cafes, arts venues and businesses across London with her vegan friendly cakes, brownies and cookies before setting up her own cafe in Dalston.

Due to Covid 19 hitting the hospitality industry hard she has had to temporarily close her bakery down until it is safe enough to reopen. In the meantime she has set up a delivery service in which she can now send out her delicious brownies to homes across the UK giving everyone a taste of her moorish tasting vegan brownies.

Brownies are life

The box which Cake or Death use should easily fit through the postbox so upon seeing on my mat a bright pink box with large spots I was immediately excited.

Upon opening up the box I was instantly hit by the smells of chocolate brownies.

They were beautifully packed within grease proof paper and looked epic.

I decided to start off with the Chocolate Brownie with Sea Salt.

Katie developed this epic chocolate brownie treat from her very own recipe which she will not reveal the secret, unless you paid her LOTS of money. Upon biting into it I can see why she does not want to reveal her recipe as they are the mos richest, gooiest and yummiest vegan chocolate brownies I have ever had from any bakery. All I do know is that they contain 300g of melted Belgian Callebaut chocolate and sprinkled with flakes of sea salt giving it that zing of a taste. So good, so moist, so gooey and chocolatey.

Next was onto the Peanut Butter Brownie.

This brownie is packed with Belgian Callebaut chocolate and swirled with crunchy peanut butter and has a hint of salt to give it that extra tang. It was a nutty chocolatey salty pleasure with each bite.

Next was onto the Biscoff Chocolate Brownie.

Cake or Death Biscoff

The Biscoff Brownie is topped with a Lotus Biscoff biscuit which tastes a little of caramel in taste. The brownie provided a sweet, salty and caramelly explosion. So divine.

Each brownie was so scrumptious, good enough to die for!

I Vote Cake

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Cake or Death I must admit I was a bit dubious in how a vegan brownie would taste but I was highly surprised as her brownies just did not just look good but tasted amazing, were gooey, moorish and packed with flavour from chocolate to a salty hit.

Cake or Death brownies were all a real treat, not just because of them being ever so rich and chocolatey in flavour plus a gooey delight but was great to know that each were all vegan friendly and gluten free.

The other great thing about these brownies though is that you don’t need to be in and wait for them to be delivered as they should fit through a letterbox.

So if you are urging for a gooey moorish brownie or wanting a pick me up then I highly recommend these.

They are also an ideal gift for a friend or family which you can also have a personalised message sent along within the box.
