What a rush! – Thames Rockets

If you are looking for unique way to learn about history of London and a thrill down the River Thames then look no further as Thames Rockets is the ride to do.

Thames Rockets

Originally London RIB Voyages, Thames Rockets took to the river Thames in 2006 becoming the first ever speedboat tour operator in London. Within a matter of months they scored their first award ‘Small Business of the Year’, then quickly followed with the ‘Best New Tourist Attraction: Gold Award’ from VisitLondon plus so many other numerous awards. Most recently they have won the ‘Family Friendly Attraction of the Year, 2017’ by VisitEngland.

The ride

This certainly is the most special and unique way to take in and discover about London’s famous landmarks/buildings that are situated along the Thames. The trip starts of at a leisurely steady pace with a very witty comical guide (ours was James) who will talk you through over 20 historical iconic landmarks/buildings from Big Ben to the London Eye. He really made it so interesting with his very larger than life personality and humour that he actually made me want to listen, learn and find out more about the history of London.

Once you reach London Bridge then it is time for the thrill of your life, hold onto your pants as you will be reaching speeds of up to 35 mph (our skipper on night was the lovely Nick). I went in the evening when the sun was setting so the dramatic sky and lights from the buildings and the high speed of the speedboat made this a spectacular night.

To top the night off you will then get served an alcoholic cocktail that’s if you can handle it after being shaken and not stirred. Only one criticism is that I wished the drink was poured into plastic clear champagne type glasses rather than cheap red plastic cups as did not make the drink seem special but that’s just my opinion and me being fussy. Other than that the whole trip with the humorous commentary by James and the speeds by Nick made this the most memorable time I have ever had in London along with some others from the Love Pop Ups London community.

“eat your heart out James Bond”

Verdict

Thames Rockets is a must if you are seeking a historical tour that is so different and more unique and a thrill. Most certainly an idea for a birthday present, date night, family trip, work do or even a hen/stag party. I certainly will be returning to try it out during the daytime.
