Gin and cake lovers heaven – Fentimans Gin Bakery

The G&T season maybe over but Fentimans has bought to London it’s first UK pop up gin bakery which popped up for three days (21-23 September) in Portobello Road at Pearl & Groove Bakery.

Fentimans

Fentimans have been making natural botanical drinks for over 100 years since 1905.  Thomas Fentiman the founder of Fentimans started out initially brewing ginger beer.  Since then lots of other beverages have created and developed by them from their ever so popular Rose Lemonade through to their traditional Ginger Beer.   All their drinks are brewed for 7 days using the time-honoured botanical brewing process resulting in superior tasting drink.

Pearl & Groove

Pearl & Groove is a London based bakery which was started up by Serena and Flo in 2016.  They sell gluten free cakes along with some dairy free options.

Fentimans came to London for three days with a Gin Pop Up Bakery.

Fentimans wanted to mark the occasion of their latest gins along with their gin-inspired recipes, including a pink grapefruit tonic cheesecake, which is available on their website. Recipes can be found at http://www.fentimans.com/bakery/

To mark the opening of their three day run they got Sophie Faldo the winner of 2017 The Great British Bake Off to open up their pop up at Pearl & Groove on the Friday.

“Our consumers love of baking has inspired us to find a way to bring together two of the nation’s favourite things – gin and baking, and what better time to launch the pop-up than during a month that sees Great British Bake Off return to our screens.”

Sarah Brownrigg, Fentimans marketing manager

Each cake is baked by the Pearl & Groove talented ladies using Fentimans drinks.  Whilst enjoying one of their cakes or two why not also pair it with a G&T.

Ready taste

When I heard about Fentimans holding a gin inspired cake pop up well I just had to go along and visit and buy a cake or two as I just love cake and I love Fentimans drinks.

The cakes did not just look great but also tasted great.

Me and my friend Steve bought three cakes in total and shared them. One which contained gin and two non alcoholic cakes.

Sparkling Elderflower & Whitley Neil Rhubarb & Ginger Gin with Ginger Garnish

This did not just look beautiful with it’s pink cream but it tasted delicious.  All ingredients really did compliment each other with the ginger and gin not overpowering the other tastes.

Nutella

If you love nutella chocolate spread as much as I do and chocolate cake then this is a must.  Any chocolate lover will not be disappointed by this cake.

Salted Caramel

I am addicted to salted caramel and this certainly did not disappointment.  It was moist and tasted heavenly with that hint of saltiness coming through from the salted caramel.

All the cakes were amazing and who would of thought that they were all gluten free.  So if you can’t eat gluten and really love cake then I highly recommend visit to Pearl & Groove for a cake or two.

I’m glad that I went along to this pop up and it inspired me to even make and bake one of the cakes published on the Fentimans website.

So here is my Gin and Rose Lemonade Drizzle cake.
